This talk is for HR executives, trainers and consultants working with groups, teams and departments struggling to get business results due to people issues such as resistance to change, conflict, low morale, and lack of cooperation. There is much in the news and training world about the health, wellness, and leadership benefits of mindfulness for individuals in the workplace. But what about the powerful experience and benefits of group or “team mindfulness”?
This talk will include a brief overview of what mindfulness is and how it relates to teams and team effectiveness. There will be a focus on the stages of group/team mindfulness - and how mindfulness impacts leader effectiveness, team communication, decision making, morale and productivity. This approach to teams allows individuals and teams to get unstuck from negative patterns, let go of personal obstacles to effective and authentic communication and leadership, reduce resistance to change, and get better business results!
Speaker Bio:
Edward Groody is President of Ed Groody & Associates, Inc., an organization development-consulting firm. He and his team of consultants have been helping companies get exceptional results and create a Spirit of Community in the workplace since 2001.
Edward specializes in helping leaders implement change in a way that engages and honors people. He has facilitated highly successful financial and cultural turnarounds in a variety of industries and corporate settings.
Edward is also founder and President of the non-profit Community Building Institute, a global training and consulting organization. The Community Building Knoxville initiative, funded by the Haslam Foundation and United Way, is using Community Building workshops to: build civility and more authentic relationships and collaboration with key local leaders; increase diversity & equity awareness; reduce employee burnout and compassion fatigue; and improve outcomes in social service and criminal justice programs.
Prior to starting Ed Groody & Associates, Inc. he served as Director of Organization Development with Covenant Health, a large health care system serving East Tennessee. Edward is one of a handful of individuals to train and work with M. Scott Peck, M.D., bestselling author of The Road Less Traveled and developer of the innovative mindfulness. leadership development and team-building process called Community Building. Edward was also a part of the leadership group that organized and facilitated the first men’s conferences with renowned poet and author Robert Bly in Minnesota in the 80s and 90s.
Edward is a longtime student of mindfulness and contemplative practices. In addition to his full-time consulting work, he leads Poetry Divina, Community Building, meditation/centering prayer and other contemplative workshops for retreat centers, universities, nonprofits, businesses, and religious groups.
