Acting with Respect

Presented By: Geoffrey Scheer

Managing Director, Access Communications

Networking and lunch: 11:30am

Program: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

During this interactive presentation, Geoffrey Scheer will utilize the power of live theater to illustrate the ethical and financial benefits of a diverse, inclusive and harassment free workplace.

Volunteers will be selected to perform several short scenes with Geoffrey depicting real-life workplace situations of discrimination, unconscious bias, harassment and other barriers to diversity and inclusion.

Geoffrey will then lead a discussion with the audience, attempting to understand the underlying motivations behind each character's actions and explore alternate ways the various situations could be handled.

Learning Objectives:

  • Underscore the importance of diversity and harassment awareness training; it's the "right" thing to do (moral and ethical reasons) and it's the "smart" thing to do (legal and financial considerations)
  • Learn how to identify the underlying motives behind people's behaviors and actions.
  • Explore alternative, "outside-the-box" training methods prioritizing human connection over reliance on technology.

An accomplished actor and playwright, Geoffrey Scheer now uses his background in entertainment to educate audiences on the importance of respect in the workplace with his theater-based training methods.

Geoffrey has been training on issues of diversity, inclusion and harassment since 2004, working with such companies as AIG, HSBC, Merrill Lynch and many others. He has presented at conferences and chapter meetings for many business organizations including the Association for Talent Development, the American Society for Quality, the Association of Legal HR Manager, and the Society for Human Resource Management, where last year he was a speaker at their National Conference and Exposition in Chicago.

Geoffrey is a published, produced and New York Times reviewed playwright; a contributing writer on ethical issues for; and author of the book Acting with Respect: A Theater-based Approach to Creating a More Diverse, Harmonious and Profitable Workplace.  For more information on Geoffrey and Access Communications, visit the website
